On Tuesday local time, a U.S. federal court ruled that Elon Musk must comply with a subpoena from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to testify in the agency's investigation into his October 2022 acquisition of Twitter.
Musk has argued that the SEC has no authority to subpoena him to investigate whether he violated any rules when acquiring the website now known as X.scratch3.0onlineHe violated federal securities laws and accused the agency of harassing him during a years-long dispute.
However, San Francisco Federal Court Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley agreed on Tuesday with a lower court's decision against Musk in February, arguing that "the investigation Musk claims constitutes harassment is a legitimate government investigation."
