In order to implement active fertility support measures, the Shanghai City Medical Insurance Bureau, together with the human resources and social protection and health departments, recently issued the "Notice on Including Some Therapeutic Assisted Reproductive Technology Projects into the Coverage of Medical Insurance and Work Injury Insurance." Shanghai will include 12 assisted reproductive medical service items into the scope of medical insurance payment, covering necessary medical assisted reproductive technology such as oocyte retrieval, sperm retrieval, artificial insemination, embryo culture, and embryo transfer. It will be implemented from June 1, 2024 and is expected to reduce the burden on insured persons by approximately 900 million yuan every year.

According to incomplete statistics, as of now, Beijing, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Jiangxi, and Shanghai have successively included assisted reproduction in medical insurance reimbursement.
